Eco-friendly or natural cleaning products can be a great choice for non-industrial or commercial grade applications. This is especially true when a heavy duty cleaner is not wanted or necessary. Yes, there are some heavy duty natural cleaners on the market today, but not many, and the ones that actually work aren’t cheap! For non-industrial applications, such as a home setting, let’s take a look at two awesome options that are eco-friendly, very versatile, affordable and widely available.
ORANGE OIL
First, let’s discuss orange oil. You may be thinking, “I thought you said affordable!” – but stay with me. Don’t let the sticker price of orange oil fool you. The good stuff is not diluted with anything, and is very concentrated and strong. It will go a long way, and can be used for a ton of cleaning applications. We suggest finding a cold-pressed natural orange oil full of amazing d-limonene. D-limonene is the powerful natural oil/solvent from the orange peel, and it’s excellent for general cleaning, degreasing and a ton of surfaces. Below you’ll find some interesting and useful information on using orange oil!
THOUSANDS OF PRACTICAL USES. Orange oil is an extremely versatile & powerful natural solvent. Use orange oil to remove dirt, grease, oil, food, odors, ink, glue, crayon, soap scum, etc. It’s great for general cleaning, windows, kitchens, bathrooms, counter tops, floors, sinks, bathtubs, showers, tile, toilets, carpets, laundry degreasing, jewelry, stove tops, ovens, grills, air freshening, adhesive removal and more!
-SAFE TO USE ON NEARLY ANY SURFACE. Use on practically any surface to remove stains and soils. Use orange oil to clean metal, glass, granite, porcelain, tile, brick, concrete, stucco, rubber, plastic, and more.
-WONDERFULLY REFRESHING SCENT. Chemicals like bleach and ammonia can give off toxic fumes. With orange oil, you’ll only smell a wonderfully natural citrus aroma after cleaning.
-DILUTE AS NEEDED. Simply dilute your orange oil concentrate to your preferred strength for the desired application/use. Some starting points are: Household and General Cleaning: Mix 2 ounces per gallon of water. Soil Drench: Mix 4 ounces per gallon of water. Foliar Solution: Mix 2 ounces per gallon of water. Heavy Duty Cleaning & Degreasing: Mix 10 ounces per gallon of water.
VINEGAR
Vinegar is another incredible multi-purpose natural product that can be used inside and outside of homes & businesses for hundreds of uses including cleaning, laundry, automotive, gardening and much more. We recommend getting the strong stuff (around 30%, which is 6x stronger than store bought) so you have the versatility and can dilute as needed. Vinegar, just like orange oil, is very concentrated and strong- so a little goes a long way! Below you’ll find some interesting and useful information on using Vinegar!
-TONS OF PRACTICAL USES. Great for general cleaning, odor elimination, polishing chrome & metal, cleaning brick and stone, laundry and washing machine odors, automotive, cooking, dissolving mineral/calcium/lime buildup, removing soap scum, gardening needs and more.
-ECONOMICAL. Vinegar is super inexpensive, and you can stretch this even further by buying 30% vinegar, which is around 6 times stronger than store bought vinegar! When we say a little goes a long way, that’s true for cleaning AND your wallet!
NON-TOXIC AND SAFE FOR PETS: Non-toxic, biodegradable, additive-free, non-caustic, dye- and chemical-free.
-DILUTE AS NEEDED. Simply dilute 30% vinegar concentrate to your preferred strength for the desired application/use. Some starting points are: Horticultural Applications: Use at full strength with any type of pressure sprayer. Regular Cleaning: Add 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water. Heavy Duty Cleaning: Add 1 part Vinegar to 2 parts water.
